Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking, Howrah police arrested four smugglers from Bihar late Thursday night and seized 150 kilograms of ganja from the Jaipur Bill area under Liluah police station. Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted the accused while they were transferring the consignment from a large vehicle into a smaller one.
The consignment was reportedly brought from Odisha and was intended for distribution across various parts of Bengal. Both vehicles involved in the transfer were confiscated as evidence. The operation was carried out under the supervision of Liluah police station in-charge Debashish Pahari and is being hailed as a significant breakthrough in curbing the regional drug network.
All four accused were produced before the Howrah court on Friday. The police are now tracing the intended delivery points of the contraband and believe this bust has exposed a wider smuggling racket. The incident has triggered alarm in the Jaipur locality, which has rarely seen such large-scale narcotics operations.
Investigators are confident that further leads will emerge from the interrogation of the arrested individuals, as well as forensic examination of the seized vehicles and mobile phones recovered during the raid.
